Effective immediately the Town of Pouch Cove will be under a precautionary Boil Water Advisory.
This advisory is due to some ongoing issues with the Water Treatment Plant’s ability to effectively remove certain elements from the constantly changing source water. The Town is continuing to work with the designer and supplier of the plant to eliminate these issues and increase the effectiveness of our filtration for the future.
This temporary shut-down of the Water Treatment Plant will stop filtration to enable us to do some required maintenance and cleanings as well as help us further understand the issues that are causing the premature fouling of our filtration system. While we are unable to filter the water currently, we are still able to chlorinate/disinfect and make the water as safe as possible for the residents.
We anticipate this shutdown to last approximately 2 weeks, but we will keep the public as up to date as we can during this process. At this time, we ask the public to follow all boil water advisory guidelines and bring all water that is to be consumed to a rigorous rolling boil for at least one minute before using it. We also wish to advise the public that this unfiltered water will be discolored to some degree, and they should notice the unfiltered water coming through the system in the coming hours. We apologize for the inconvenience that this will cause and promise that we are working diligently to permanently avoid these issues in the future. Thank you for your patience.
