Resident Advisory: Foxglove Identified in Pouch Cove
The Town of Pouch Cove is advising residents that Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) has recently been identified in several areas of the community.
Foxglove is known for its tall spikes of pink-purple, bell-shaped flowers and is often grown as an ornamental plant. While attractive, all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested, and contact with the plant may cause skin irritation in some individuals. Children and pets are particularly vulnerable, so we encourage residents to take extra care when enjoying parks, trails, and other green spaces.
If you come across Foxglove:
• Please do not touch or pick the plant.
• Keep children and pets away from it.
• If removal is necessary on private property, wear gloves, avoid direct contact, and dispose of the plant in a sealed bag rather than composting it.
The Town is working to assess locations where Foxglove has been identified and determine appropriate next steps. In the meantime, if you encounter plants you believe may be hazardous, please avoid disturbing them. Please see the photos below to help identify Foxglove. With awareness and a little extra care, everyone can continue to safely enjoy Pouch Cove’s outdoor spaces.
